Canucks pay tribute to Pat Quinn

Prior to the in-arena tribute, the Canucks unveiled “Pat Quinn Way” outside Rogers Arena. 
The Vancouver Canucks celebrated the life and legacy of Pat Quinn during their St. Patrick’s Day game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Rogers Arena on Tuesday night. The club’s anthem singer sang a rendition of “When Irish eyes are smiling”. Flyers’ captain Claude Giroux along with Canucks’ captain Henrik Sedin participated in a ceremonial face-off with Quinn’s family dropping the puck.

The Wild's tribute to J.P. Parise

Video tribute to the late J.P. Parise. NHL forward for parts of 17 seasons and the father of Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise, died Wednesday. He was 73.


"After a brave battle with lung cancer, J.P. Parise passed away peacefully at home Wednesday night with his family by his side," the Parise family said in a statement released on the Wild website. "We appreciate the outpouring of support we have received from family, friends and the entire hockey community during this difficult time. J.P. was a great husband, father and grandpa and will be greatly missed by all of us."

1 Year since Darkest day in Ice Hockey history

On September 7, 2011, the Lokomotiv club was to travel to Minsk for their first game of the 2011–12 KHL season when the airplane they were in caught fire and crashed shortly after take-off, from Tunoshna Airport. Almost the entire team of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl was killed. Of the 45 passengers, only a flight attendant survived in one of the deadliest aviation accidents in the history of sports. The Opening Cup game in Ufa, which was already under way when news of the disaster arrived, was abandoned and the start of the season postponed by 5 days by the tragedy which touched hockey fans around the world. Yaroslav Lokomotiv was given a one-year hiatus from the KHL to rebuild its program. The team this month returned to compete in Russia's top league with a remade roster featuring players promoted from the club's farm team, as well several imports from North American hockey circles.

Now, Sept. 7 will live in infamy for hockey fans around the world.
